Experience

December 2004 - present Level 5 Networks Senior Staff Engineer. Development of high-performance user-level network stacks.
July 2000 - September 2004 AT&T Research Labs, Cambridge Research Engineer. Research into low-latency network design, mobile technology, applications of location systems, distributed systems, and operating systems. This work is now forming the basis of my PhD: a study of user-level TCP and bridging for a server cluster.
October 2000 - September 2003 University of Cambridge Supervisor for the Computer Science and Engineering departments. Teaching undergraduates in Communication Systems, Concurrent Systems, Digital Electronics, Software Engineering, Digital Communications, Hardware and Computer Design, and Operating Systems.
1999 - 2000 CTM Ltd. Co-Founder and Technical Director of CTM Ltd (a successful Cambridge start-up), working on systems software design for the online recruitment industry.
Summer 1999. AT&T Research Labs, Cambridge Research into low-latency network design and implementation on the CLAN project. I was mainly involved in developing low-level linux kernel modules in C to implement TCP/IP transfers across an extremely fast network.
Summer & Christmas 1997, 1998. Harlequin Ltd, Cambridge A total of 40 weeks of work (during the my undergraduate university vacations) with the EP2000 division involved mainly in highly configurable cross platform GUI development in Java as well as some CORBA related network programming
Easter 1995 Rolls Royce, Barnoldswick A two week work experience placement on attachment to the fast response unit involved in the design and manufacture of prototypes for jet engine components.
1994 - present Open source and freelance work Involved in a large number of community projects, most recently a lead developer on a lightweight TCP/IP stack for embedded and low-memory systems.

Awards

2001 - 2004: Industrial Fellowship (Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851).
This is a highly competitive award, given to only 5 Ph.D. students nationally per year.
This funding was obtained by me personally and was worth a total of (approximately) £100,000 split between employer, student, and university.
2002 - 2004:College Senior Scolarship (Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge).
1999 - 2000:Scholarship in Electrical and Information Sciences (Peterhouse, Cambridge).
1997 - 1999:Scholarship in Computer Science (Peterhouse, Cambridge).
