Photo Blog #39

Again, nothing to write home about with this photo. It's been raining a lot, I took a photo of the rain. Others have done much better shots like this: Shutterjunkie and London Rubbish to name but two. However, that doesn't put me off - I appreciate someone else's photo much more once I've tried to do something similar myself, and although I rarely come close on the first attempt, I get to experiment and learn, which is the whole point. Because I'm still learning, there's lots I don't like about this one, so I might try again next time it's raining and I've nothing else to put up.

Camera : Olympus C2040-Z
Flash used : No
Focal length : 21.0mm
Exposure time: 0.0040 s (1/250)
Aperture : f/2.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Exposure bias: -0.30
Metering Mode: matrix
Exposure : aperture priority

I discovered a whole new reason to buy a new camera today! While mine is fine for work such as this, if I wanted to start producing and selling stock photos (through a website such as iStockPhoto for example) it wouldn't have the resolution to produce anything other than their absolute minimum requirement. I'd need to sell around 1000 photos for it to be justifiable economically though, so perhaps it's not such a good reason after all!

Photo Blog #38

A rather hurried and late entry this week. I tried to get some new shots last night in between the torrential rain showers, but nothing I was happy with, so I've raided the archive.

Camera : Olympus C2040-Z

Exposure time: 0.0100 s (1/100)

No real post-processing on this, just cropped and unsharp mask.

Well, given that I've been somewhat tied to this little bundle of joy this week, I've not had much else to photograph! She likes the noises the camera makes, which is good because she'll become pretty familiar with them over the next few years I reckon.

Camera : Olympus C2040-Z
Date/Time : 2006:05:12 11:20:13
Flash used : No
Focal length : 12.4mm
Exposure time: 0.020 s (1/50)
Aperture : f/2.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Metering Mode: spot
Exposure : aperture priority

Somewhat rapid post processing this time - I'm going to have to master doing it while holding a baby I think. Added sepia layer and vignette. No cropping or sharpening.

Another couple of shots where the subject vastly outshines the photographer, although I would say that as I'm biased on both counts!

Camera : Olympus C2040-Z
Date/Time : 2006:05:05 18:08:36
Flash used : No
Focal length : 21.0mm
Exposure time: 0.400 s (1/2)
Aperture : f/2.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Metering Mode: spot
Exposure : aperture priority
Camera : Olympus C2040-Z
Date/Time : 2006:05:05 18:10:08
Flash used : No
Focal length : 14.5mm
Exposure time: 0.333 s (1/3)
Aperture : f/2.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Metering Mode: spot
Exposure : aperture priority

No post-processing on these - no time with this little one to care for! I'm mildly annoyed that the focus is off on them both. It's impossible to spot this sort of problem from the screen on my camera, and it catches me out every now and then. In case you're wondering, they're shots of my daughter's hand and it's reflection in the side of her cot.
