Lane

Not a particularly original shot this, or even a good example of it, but we've all got to start somewhere. This was, for me, more an experiment with converting to black and white, which is something that I'm just starting to realise is quite complex.

Camera model : Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL
Date/Time : 2006:10:15 17:08:35
Flash used : No
Focal length : 55.0mm (35mm equiv: 89mm)
Exposure time: 0.040 s (1/25)
Aperture : f/5.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Exposure bias: -0.67
Whitebalance : Auto
Metering Mode: matrix
Exposure : aperture priority

Converted to black and white using the channel mixer, mostly using the green channel, a little from the red, and a bit of negative from the blue. I can look out the original if anyone is interested.

Tricolore

I lost two hours of sleep trying to get this, which when you have a 6 month old baby is a very big deal, so I hope you like it! It involved a rather Wallace and Gromit-esque arrangement of common household items arranged in what can only be called an amusing, amateur and haphazard fashion to get the effect. I wish now I'd taken a photo of the setup for posterity.

I was originally planning to get them floating on water (they are on glass instead) but I just didn't have the time to do it. Water would, I think, have lent something extra, particularly where the surface would have deformed around the leaves.

Camera model : Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL
Date/Time : 2006:11:08 22:21:19
Flash used : No
Focal length : 41.0mm (35mm equiv: 67mm)
CCD width : 22.17mm
Exposure time: 0.077 s (1/13)
Aperture : f/7.1
ISO equiv. : 100
Exposure bias: -0.67
Exposure : aperture priority

Almost no post processing to speak of: a crop to remove some extraneous black from the bottom of the shot (but I'm still in two minds about that), and a tinsy bit of unsharp mask.

Mist

Not sure how this one will be received; it's rather minimal, but I like it. It's a freshly ploughed field at sunrise on a misty autumn morning.

Camera model : Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL
Date/Time : 2006:10:14 07:49:19
Flash used : No
Focal length : 49.0mm (35mm equiv: 79mm)
CCD width : 22.20mm
Exposure time: 0.017 s (1/60)
Aperture : f/7.1
ISO equiv. : 100
Whitebalance : Auto
Metering Mode: matrix
Exposure : program (auto)

Very little post processing here, just converted to black and white, and a minor curves adjustment.
