Hot chilli stuff
Good news everyone! The new camera works. Hurrah. This was the first photo of it. I've not had much chance to play around with it yet - these chillies have been the only subject, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Thought the white balance and auto-exposure could have been a bit better on this, but I was using it after sunset trying desperately to get something to put up before it got dark, so will have to hold judgement for a while yet.
Editing consisted of playing around with the curves to try and do some white balance correction, but that's about it.

Hit me with your rhythm stick!
This chap was part of a percussion group taking part in the Market Harborough Arts Fresco - I don't know anything more about him, but I like drums, and they put on a good show. Not quite as good as "Mario Queen Of The Circus", but he was a hard act to follow.
In other news (Good News Everyone!) I sold a photo this week through fotolia - one of the many "stock photos from the masses" websites - so am rightly chuffed. I've celebrated by buying a new camera with my earnings.
Standard stuff for me in the post processing. Curves adjustment, overlay laer, vignette, and some unsharp mask - quite a bit more unsharp than normal.

Nature Mimics Man
A cobweb built inside the metal lattice of a garden gate.
I was very much in two minds when processing this: normally I go for a darker, higher contrast, more punchy colours sort of look, but with this image that style of processing lost some of the grey misty autumnal feel of it. I did it anyway as it was past my bedtime!

Chain Reaction
Another Fujimugs Challenge entry, doubling up as a blog post. The brief was "Machine macro".
Cropped, curves adjustment, and vignette using multiply layer with mask. No sharpening. Would have been nice to have a camera capable of a more genuine macro, but only a bad workman blames his tools!

Smiler
Been a few weeks since I got some decent shots of isabel, so I tried to get some last weekend. Unfortunately it was quite dark by the time I got the chance to take them, and her happy wiggling coupled with the slow shutter speed meant most were blurred. This was the best of the bunch, but I think it's a something I'll revisit and try to improve. Can't get them all right first time, eh?
Camera model : Olympus C2040Z Flash used : No Focal length : 11.9mm Exposure time: 0.013 s (1/80) Aperture : f/2.3 ISO equiv. : 100 Metering Mode: spot Exposure : aperture priority |
Post processing on this was fairly standard, gaussian blur overlay, vignette, etc. I also removed a mark from her cheek where she had scratched herself. There's an interesting description of post-processing work on Shutter Junkie's latest post, which is for a similarly framed shot, so I will have to try that perhaps.
