Dawn

I got up far too early in the morning to do some shots along the backs earlier this week. Sadly, it would seem that I didn't get up early enough (or rather that the sun beat me to it). I rather underestimated how light it would be even before sunrise, and so wasn't able to achieve what I wanted. The problem is evident in this one, which is the best of a bad bunch, in that the sky is totally washed out. Had I been there an hour earlier I should have been able to get a more balanced exposure. Ho hum. Perhaps I'll wait till winter when it doesn't get light so early.

Still, could be worse. I'm quite happy with the composition. Was also suprisingly good fun being up and about taking photos at half five.

Mr Froggy

Just an experiment in getting a black background using a mirror this week, which I hope will be useful in some stock photography. This is Mr Froggy - one of Isabel's bath toys.

Camera model : Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL
Date/Time : 2007:03:08 19:28:26
Flash used : No
Focal length : 41.0mm (35mm equiv: 66mm)
CCD width : 22.20mm
Exposure time: 0.250 s (1/4)
Aperture : f/5.6
ISO equiv. : 100
Exposure bias: 0.33
Exposure : aperture priority

Post processing consisted of a levels adjustment to make sure the background was uniform black, and to set the black and white points (it was lit using a halogen lamp, so the colour was a little off in the original).

Stinking Hellebore

I know it's another flower, but I was particularly pleased with this one. The depth of field is (in my opinion!) spot on and I love the composition with the repeated set of flowers in the background. The contrasting green and purple on the lips of the hellebores really sets it off. I'll try and get something non-floral for next week, but spring is definitely upon us in the garden now.

Camera model : Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL

Post processing was just a levels and curves adjustment to give a bit more contrast.
